Research Interests
My primary research uses economic methods to examine challenges in environmental policy, with a particular focus on nonmarket valuation techniques. I apply this research in a variety of settings, including production and consumption of agricultural products and contamination of municipal drinking water systems.
A secondary strand of research takes an experimental approach to better understand effective teaching methods, broadly falling into the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (‘SoTL’) literature. Some examples of this work include (1) the development of student writing abilities in large sections of principles of economics courses and (2) techniques that can be used to mitigate problems associated with students' over-confidence in their abilities on both writing- and math-related assessments in business and economics courses.
